The Morocco Pavilion was added to the World Showcase in 1984 and is the only country in the World showcase that is sponsored by the government as opposed to a corporation.  The recreated architecture and atmosphere of the northwest African Kingdom represents three cities: Casablanca, Fez and Marrakesh.

The prayer tower at the entrance of the pavilion is a detailed replica of the Koutoubia Minaret, the famous prayer tower in Marrakesh. Out of respect for the religious significance of the structures built there, Morocco is not lit up during Illuminations.

The Islamic religion prohibits artistic depiction of live objects; therefore, Muslim artists exhibit their own unique style of artistic expression with abstract designs consisting of detailed geometric patterns, as represented in their tiled walls, plaster carvings and fountains. The intricate tile details in the Bab Boujouloud is modeled after a gateway in the City of Fez. To replicate the authenticity of their architecture and design, the King of Morocco sent his craftsmen to construct the structures in Epcot as well as lay the intricate tile patterns and even design the Tangierine Cafe.

Entertainment, shopping and dining are great treats in this pavilion, especially with the opening of the new Spice Table Restaurant with magnificent views of the lagoon and IllumiNations.
