Mickey Mouse Apple Watch

Screen Shot 2015-03-11 at 4.26.03 AMAround 6 months ago, Apple made public that they were creating an Apple Watch.  And, just as expected, social media was all a buzz with the latest and greatest addition to Apple’s technology.  I have to admit I am a huge Apple fan and spend a lot of my time on my iPhone and my MacBook as well as my other iProducts but I wasn’t very excited to hear they were doing a watch.  Meh!  I’ll take my classic Mickey Mouse watch collection any day.  At least I would until I saw the new customized Mickey Mouse watch.  Yes, please!

The more I learn about this watch, the more I think I need to have one.  Not only will this cool little device have my main man, Mickey Mouse, on its face but it will also have Siri and navigation capabilities. The navigation is an interesting option but I am not too sure about Siri. Talking into your watch seems a little strange to me and I imagine I will look like I am trying to be a secret agent, but okay, I will give it a whirl!

Not only can you use Siri and navigation, you can also message and manage photos.  This is great…if you can SEE the text or the photos.  It’s not like you are walking around with an iPad mini on your wrist.  I am pretty sure I won’t use the text option often as I have a hard enough time seeing the text on my phone without my glasses much less a 38mm watch, but again, I will give it a whirl.

Photos could be interesting.  Can you send them?  Can you take them?  Again, I am imagining I will look like a secret agent trying to nonchalantly take pictures of things with my Go-Go Gadget watch.

Wondering about the details?  I was too so here’s what I found:

Apple is saying this watch is both fashionable and functional.  Indeed it is.  It will be available in 2 different sizes – 38mm (1.5″) and 42mm(1.7″) and will be a collection of 3 different styles –  Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition.  With 6 different casing materials an 6 interchangeable band options in a variety of colors, there is bound to be something to appeal to everyone.

All of the Apple Watches include an HD Retina screen, sapphire-covered sensors built into the zirconia backing, and the chip to allow it to work with Apple’s mobile payment service, Apple Pay.   That’s pretty convenient and now accepted at the Walt Disney World resort.  There are several watch faces to choose from and all are customizable.  From what I gathered, one Apple watch can have countless appearances.  Did I mention the battery power can last up to 18 hours?  This is far longer than my silly iPhone that burns out battery quickly causing me to carry a plug around in my purse.

So, now let’s talk cost.  Like every other Apple product, it’s a little pricey but when you think of the technology and the capabilities in one little 1.5″ watch, I think it’s reasonable.  Unless you are buy the Watch Edition, then it’s downright ridiculous!   Prices for the device start at start at $349 for the aluminum Watch Sport model and the stainless steel Watch collection starts at $549. Now get this, this is where it gets a little crazy.  The Watch Edition, the highest priced of the devices, starts at $10,000 for the gold collection and can go as high as $17,000.  WHAT?  No, no, no!  I don’t think so.  I think I will stick with the more affordable Watch Sport or Watch models.

When will you be able to get your Mickey Mouse Apple Watch?  How does April 24th sound?  Sounds good to me – that’s not too far away!  And, you can actually preorder your Apple Watch on April 10th on Apple’s website – See you there!
