Staying Cool in the Queues at Walt Disney World Resort

As an educator, I mostly visit Walt Disney World Resort during the warmer parts of the year while we are on break. In order to keep everyone in my family in a magical mood during our trips, one of the goals is to keep them cool. There are plenty of ways to stay cool including using misting fans, dressing in light clothing and avoiding the parks during the hottest part of the day, etc. but there are also attractions that help with a little cool down time as well.

I’ve broken them down into two types, wet rides and attractions and cool queues and attractions. Each one offers much-needed relief from the heat, but not all of them let you rest your feet, too.

Magic Kingdom Park

In Magic Kingdom Park, wet rides and attractions include Splash Mountain and the Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station.

Cool queues include Dumbo the Flying Elephant (where your little ones can play on the playground while you wait), Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, and Mickey’s Philharmagic. The Haunted Mansion, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, Hall of Presidents, Under the Sea- Journey of The Little Mermaid, It’s a Small World and Enchanted Tales with Belle also provide relief from the heat.

Epcot

In Epcot, the only wet ride is Frozen Ever After, but it also has a cool queue and is a dark ride. Along the path past the Fountain of Nations leading to the World Showcase, there’s a little splash area for kids, and adults alike. Cruise into the Test Track Cool Wash station for slushies under misters and cooling fans.

Cool queues at Epcot include Frozen Ever After, Soarin’, Living with the Land, The Seas with Nemo and Friends, Journey into Imagination with Figment, Test Track, Mission: SPACE, Ellen’s Energy Adventure, Spaceship Earth and Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros. These attractions also count as inside air-conditioned attraction rides. Many countries around World Showcase have air-conditioned shows including the popular American Adventure that provide a place to rest and cool down.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, there are currently no wet rides. However, cool queues and attractions include The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Rock ‘n Roller Coaster, Star Tours-The Adventures Continue, The Great Movie Ride, Toy Story Midway Mania!, Muppet Vision 3D, Disney Jr. Live on Stage, Voyage of the Little Mermaid and For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration.

Animal Kingdom

In Animal Kingdom, the only wet ride is Kali River Rapids. Cool queues and attractions include Na’vi River Journey, Avatar Flight of Passage, DINOSAUR, It’s Tough to Be a Bug!, Finding Nemo-The Musical and Festival of the Lion King.

Most, if not all, stores are air conditioned so feel free to browse and cool off while you shop. Some character attractions are also located inside, as well.
