Let’s face it, we ALL love visiting the Disney Parks. There are lots of memories to be made and staying charged is key to capturing all those memories. Back when I first started going to Disney, I had my trusty Kodak camera (yes, I’m that old!), then we eventually purchased the new digital cameras, primitive as they were, looking back. As we moved into the digital age, it became necessary to either carry batteries with you or recharge them yourself. Now in the age of the “smart” phone, the traditional battery has gone by the wayside, and we find ourselves in need of “charging” stations, portable chargers, or a good old-fashioned outlet!
FuelRod Kiosks
Disney, recognizing this need, has installed FuelRod kiosks in all of their parks and now the resorts. These handy little items are the first portable and reusable/exchangeable charging system that allows you to charge up your devices while on the go. You simply use it and then when your battery is drained, you recharge it or swap it out at the every-growing list of kiosks in the parks and resorts for a fresh one! The kiosks are even themed to the “land” or area where you purchase them!

All you need is a credit card to swipe at the machine, and for $30, it is then yours to keep and swap for unlimited times as needed. Once you make your payment, out comes your plastic container with your FuelRod and you also get adapters for both Apple and Android devices and those are also yours to keep. (Remember when you swap out, you are only inserting the rod, not the plastic container or the adapters, those are yours!) Out comes your freshly charged FuelRod ready to use and you’re on your way!

At $30, you are paying for the convenience of charging on the go. These can be purchased for $20 on the actual FuelRod site and also in many airports. I purposely did not do that because I wanted to experience buying in the parks and swapping out an endless amount of times. Some will say you can buy a better charger on Amazon for much less and that is true. The whole point of the kiosks in the park is to have the convenience of using, charging and swapping as your needs call for it and it’s all within a short walk, once you know where the kiosks are. All chargers are going to run low at some point, with FuelRod, that is never a problem, and I like that idea!
On a recent trip, I had an opportunity to discuss the kiosk system with one of the employees hired from outside of Disney to come in and do the exchange of rods in the machines. He let me know that each and every FuelRod is charged and tested three times before leaving the facility. Also, each one is thoroughly sanitized as soon as they come in from the parks. I also love the idea of recycling the batteries like this instead of just throwing them away and ending up in a landfill somewhere eventually.

Even if you purchase one from the actual site for $10 less, you can still use it to swap out, and it saves you a little bit, and you can always use this in addition to chargers you may already have. To make it even more convenient, the ever-growing list of kiosk locations can now be found under the Guest Services tab on your My Disney Experience app. Let’s face it; you can never capture too many memories while on vacation at Walt Disney World or Disneyland and FuelRod makes it that much easier to do!
