Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar is the latest lounge to open in the newly transformed Disney Springs area at the Walt Disney World Resort. Located between Paradiso 37 and The Boathouse, this highly themed bar takes guests on an adventure with a storyline centered on the Indiana Jones film franchise and Indy’s pilot, Jock Lindsey.
Featuring unique drinks and tapas-styled plates, guests are immersed in aviation-themed décor such as vintage travel posters and propeller ceiling fans in the main bar area inside and an old steamboat, named Reggie, and set in a dry dock area on the outdoor patio. The Hangar Bar has seating for around 150, however seating inside is somewhat limited to 50, including a booth for 6 inside the diving bell, and the remaining seats outside along the waterfront.
While fans of the Indiana Jones franchise are familiar with Jock Lindsey, the story of the Hangar Bar has remained a mystery until now. When Jock was flying Indiana Jones in search of the Fountain of Youth in 1938, he spotted a piece of waterfront property from the air in an area known as Disney Springs.
Returning to central Florida in the 40s, Jock bought the waterfront property to store his plane that he would use for hosted seaplane tours and The Hangar quickly became a stopping point for travelers and members of The Society of Explorers and Adventurers. Today, The Hangar Bar serves as a place for locals and world travelers alike to share a drink and stories of their adventures.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting and filled with artifacts from Jock Lindsey’s adventures, including communications between he and Indy. This is the place to grab a drink and take in all the details and mementos of Jock’s adventurous travels.
Taking a break from our own Disney adventures, we dropped by The Hangar Bar to sample some of the signature libations and grab a small bite to eat. Exploring Disney Springs can bring on quite the appetite and we sure needed to whet our whistle. The menu, I mean the Pilot’s Log Book, details some of Jock’s explorations around the world.
We started with the drinks from the Sunshine State section of The Pilot’s Log – the Fountain of Youth and Reggie’s Revenge.
Most of the cocktails in this section are made up of Florida infused liquors. Reggie’s Revenge consists of Florida Cane ‘Orlando Orange’ Vodka, Midori melon liqueur, white cranberry juice, and fresh lime juice. While it’s a little too sweet to have more than one, it is fruity and refreshing.
The Fountain of Youth is made from Saint Augustine Cane Vodka, Bols Blue Curacao, white cranberry juice, and sweet-and-sour mix. Even though Jock and Indy never found the Fountain of Youth, this cocktail is quite the refreshing find.
The menu offers a nice variety of snacks that go above and beyond the standard pub food.
We started with the Good Dates which note that they are “safe for the whole family!” These Goat Cheese-stuffed dates are served with perfectly seasoned Marcona Alomonds and Pickled vegetables. The Goat Cheese is not too overpowering and blends well with the sweetness of the dates and the pickled vegetables add just the right amount of tartness for balance. Honestly, being a big fan of dates, I could have enjoyed this dish as a meal.
Then there are Dr. Elsa’s Deviled Eggs. The Deviled Eggs, according to the menu, are Beet Juice-brined eggs stuffed with crabmeat. Yum! Sounds good to me but they are not really stuffed with crab meat. While there is a little crab mixed in with the classic deviled egg yolk mixture, they are more so with a nice chunk of lump crab which add a nice flavor. If you are not a fan of beets, or even pickled beets, this dish is not for you. Being a southern girl, I love pickled anything, except pig’s feet….I refuse! But the sweet and salty flavor of the egg whites mixed with the yolk mixture was a nice addition. Plus, it’s really pretty and you eat with your eyes first, right?
All in all, Jock Lindsey’s Hangar is a great addition to the new dining venues at The Landing at Disney Springs, as well as a beautiful addition to the waterfront. With it’s super unique eats and the array of creative cocktails, it is a great place to relax, unwind and take in all the details. Allow some time to explore all the artifacts inside the bar, it is really themed beautifully, as only Disney can do.
Keep in mind that reservations are not accepted at The Hangar Bar, so you may have to wait for a table to open up on the inside. It was pretty crowded when we visited so we opted to sit outside and not wait for something on the inside. The outside seating area is comfortable and welcoming and offers a great view of some of the happenings on the water, including the AmphiCars taking launch.
