Epcot World Showcase can be very interesting for kids. The original design was modeled after a permanent World’s Fair with each of the 11 pavilions representing a specific country. While most would think it would not be very interesting for kids, there are several fun things for your toddlers, preschoolers and teens to enjoy as you make your way around the 1.2 miles of the World Showcase Lagoon. Here are 10 must-see things for your kids to enjoy while visiting the World Showcase.
1. Phineas & Ferb’s Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure – This is a chance for your child to become a secret agent and help Agent P defeat Dr. Doofenshmirtz in this interactive scavenger hunt around the World Showcase. Kids receive a F.O.N.E. (field operation notification equipment) to receive various clues on this 35-45 minute mission. Recruit your smartest family member to help you on your quest.
2. KidCot Fun Stops – Kids love to color their own Duffy bear and seek the Kidcot stations in each country’s pavilion where they receive a stamp of the nation and a little cultural insight from the cast members about their homeland. They will even learn how to say hello in their native language.
3. Grand Fiesta Tour starring The Three Caballeros – Cruise down the Rio Grande on this light-hearted boat ride in the search for Donald Duck. View actual footage of the scenery and the natives of Mexico superimposed with animation as José Carioca and Panchito look for their lost feathered friend.
4. Jeweled Dragon Acrobats – Kids will really enjoy the Chinese acrobats as they perform amazing feats and exhibit their strength, agility and balance at the entrance of China’s pavilion. Shows are about 20 minutes long and are performed throughout the day. The troupe of acrobats, ranging in ages from 18-21, have been training since a very early age in their homeland.
5. Akershus Royal Banquet Hall – Dine with royalty with Princess Storybook dining in a replica of a 14th century castle which stands in Oslo’s Harbor. Meet Disney’s Princesses: Belle, Jasmine, Snow White, Princess Aurora, Pocahontas, Ariel or Mulan for breakfast, lunch or dinner in a bountiful feast of Norwegian-inspired fare and American favorites and the Taste of Norway, a smorgasbord of tasty delights.
6. Hedge Maze and The Toy Soldier – Tucked in the back of the United Kingdom pavilion, you will find a typical British garden area complete with a shrubbery hedge maze. Kids love to run through this small but fun maze and it’s a great way for parents to take a break. Although authentic looking, it is short in height so you kids don’t get lost and parents can have a watchful eye on their kids. Don’t miss The Toy Soldier toy shoppe which is especially enticing for kids who have a love of trains. This shop also houses memorabilia generally associated with the UK such as Paddington Bear and the Beatles.
7. Sergio – Venture over to the piazza in the Italy pavilion to see Sergio, the juggling clown who entertains the crowds almost hourly. More than likely you will hear his whistle before you see him but you can’t miss him in his red and white striped shirt, ragged pants, green sash, black fedora and Chuck Taylor converse hi-tops. Audience participation is a must with Sergio since he summons kids from the audience and includes them in his soccer juggling gig. It is very entertaining, he’s hysterical and sure to please kids of all ages.
8. Mitsukoshi Department Store – Looking for a unique souvenir? You kids will love the Pick-A-Pearl station located in the store. Easy to locate because you will hear lots of cheering and drums around the station, all you have to do is pay to pick your oyster and then wait for your number to be called. You then select from hundreds of oysters located in the tank surrounding the station. The best oysters are often found in the older, distressed-looking shells. Every oyster will yield a gem, and if you are lucky, you might even come across the rare oyster with “twin” pearls to be found inside.
9. Character Meet and Greets – There are various places for your kids to meet their favorite Disney characters. Not only can you meet Alice in Wonderland in the United Kingdom but Winnie the Pooh and Tigger too. Say Bon Jour to Belle or the Beast in France, enter a whole new world to meet Jasmine and Aladdin in Morroco and Snow White and the seven dwarfs can be found in Germany. Greet Mulan in the China pavilion and most recently, you can meet Elsa and Anna in Norway. Keep in mind that the wait times to meet Elsa and Anna are extremely long right now.
10. Illuminations: Reflections of Earth – Every night in the World Showcase Lagoon, guests are entertained by the award-winning show consisting of pyrotechnics, laser lights, and water and fire sprays. In sync to music, this show illuminates the past, present and the future of the Earth, pays tribute to the nations of the world and celebrates the spirit of humanity. You will not want to miss this show – it’s spectacular.
