There has been a lot controversy about the Confederate Flag and it’s removal from various places. Walt Disney World is following other businesses and government offices and has removed the controversial flag from The American Adventure at Epcot.
The Confederate flag has been under scrutiny since the June shooting of nine people inside a South Carolina church. For many, the Confederate Flag is a symbol of racism while others maintain that it is representation of America’s southern history.
The flag, which was among 40 other flags displayed as representation of America’s history in the Hall of Flags at the American Adventure attraction, was the third flag of the Confederacy and not the Confederate battle flag. The flag displayed at the American Adventure exhibits the blue cross with white stars but rather than resting on a red background, it is bordered by white with a bold red stipe on the end (bottom right in photo below).

The American Adventure attraction takes guests through America’s storied history, making references to the Civil War, slavery and abolitionists, including Frederick Douglass. In The American Adventure attraction, Frederick Douglass travels down the Mississippi River speaking of the noise of chains, the crack of the whip, and his hope that “antislavery will unlock the slave prison.”
It is understandable that there is a controversy over flying the Confederate over government buildings, but I can’t help but wonder if it is inappropriate to remove it from a theme park attraction that offers a somewhat historical accounting of our country’s past. Granted, we shouldn’t celebrate the horrible practice of slavery, but it is part of the history of our nation and we cannot just sweep it under the rug as if it never happened.

I think Disney have done the right thing, yes it is part of your history but you’ve moved on. I think if it the same thing applied to any other country then they should do the same.
Just rewrite history.. If you going to remove an histrorical flag.. Why tell the story. Lets pretend after all it’s Disney
