Dinner at Be Our Guest

photo-49Since Be Our Guest opened in 2012 as part of Disney’s expansion of New Fantasyland, it is has been one of the most coveted reservations to gain.  Up until recently, we had only had the chance to enjoy their quick-service lunch, which, in my opinion, is one of the best in the Magic Kingdom.  A few days before we left to go to Disney World last week, I checked the My Disney Experience app just to see if by chance anything was available the evening we arrived, and much to my surprise, Be Our Guest offered two seating times.  What great luck!

Dinner at Be Out Guest is a whole different experience than their stepped-up lunch experience. Once you have checked in at the podium, you are sent over the bridge to wait for your guide to greet you and take you to your table.  The Cast Member is accompanied by a special guest, Lumiere, who lit the path as we entered through the massive double doors flanked by its stone guards and into the grand ballroom Beast’s castle.  Lumiere is a cute little touch to start off the evening

photo-47I remembered the interior being wonderful when we had the opportunity to have lunch there in July, 2013, but no where near this magnificent. As we stepped into the Grand Ballroom, I let out a small gasp as it was so beautiful and perhaps the nighttime atmosphere gave it a different feel. The ceiling is adorned by beautiful cherubs and the snow is piled up against the stained glass windows and balconies.  The room was softly lit by the chandeliers, the tables were delicately lit by candles and the ballroom was beautifully decorated with illuminated wreaths, garlands and a magnificent Christmas tree. It is pure magic as only Disney’s Imagineers can create.

We were ushered into the Rose Gallery, which is not where I had hoped to be seated but it was lovely just the same. The center focus of the room is an oversized twirling music box of Belle and the Beast dancing the night away and the walls are decorated with various tapestries and artwork depicting scenes from the beloved film Beauty and the Beast.

Our delightful server greeted us with a menu and a wine list….wait, wine in the Magic Kingdom? Perfect. I went with the Lasseter Family Winery Paysage as recommended and enjoyed it as I perused the menu and the many delicious things to choose from.

For an appetizer, we absolutely had to have the French Onion soup, which we shared.  It was wonderfully cheesy and loaded with onion in a perfect beef broth.

Even though the Ratatouille and the Strip Steak were highly recommended, I decided to go against the grain try the Sautéed Shrimp and Scallops.  This light, delicious dish is served in a creamy lobster sauce in a Puff Pastry with seasonal vegetables and mushrooms.  It was simply delightful and loaded with flavor.  The scallops were cooked perfectly to my liking too.

My daughter tried the Herb Crusted Lamb and the presentation of her dish was beautiful. The lamb was accompanied by a stone-ground mustard demi-glace with a side of buttered celery root and seasonal vegetables.  While I am not a fan of lamb, I took her word for it that it was delicious but I did try her buttered celery root and it was unique with an outstanding flavor.

Our friend, Jessica, ordered the Pan-Seared Chicken Breast that is finished with a fresh herb-truffle butter and spinach cream sauce with roasted fingerling potatoes and seasonal vegetables and it looked simply divine as well.

While we were enjoying our fabulous dinners, the Beast made an appearance in the dining areas waving and bowing to his guests as the announcement was made that he would be awaiting guests in the study for pictures.  Well, how fun is that?  We haven’t had the pleasure of meeting the Beast in all of our many trips.  And of course, while you are dining, you can’t help but notice the carts that are filled with decadent desserts.  My daughter and I could not wait to hear about them and we weren’t even finished with our meals yet.

The dessert cart is filled with unbelievably beautiful desserts like eclairs a l’orange, triple chocolate cupcakes, strawberry cream cheese cupcakes, chocolate cream puffs, lemon meringue cupcakes and of course, the famous Grey Stuff. Decisions, decisions.

I have had the Grey Stuff before, but this one looked a little different.  When I first had it, it was a chocolate mousse served with gold writing that said “Try the Grey Stuff”.  Now the Grey Stuff is a crisp chocolate cookie with the Grey Stuff piped on top and delicate little pearls on it.  Must have!  It tasted like Oreos, which are my all-time favorite cookie, and it was delicious.  The little pearls are crispy and pop in your mouth for a little added touch.  I can easily say I love the Grey Stuff – it’s delicious!

My daughter had the Strawberry Cream Cheese Cupcake and it was, well sinful, but I really didn’t like it better than the Grey Stuff.  If we had not had such wonderful meals, we probably would have ordered one of each of the goodies in that cart just to taste all of them – they looked that good!

After dinner, we ventured into the Beast’s study for a meet and greet and photo ops with the Beast.  Meeting the Beast is a great ending to a wonderful dining experience.  Personally, I think it would have been perfect if it was both Belle and the Beast in the study for photos but who am I to complain!

To sum it up, Be Our Guest is a wonderful addition to the Magic Kingdom’s dining choices and one we will definitely return to, provided we can get lucky enough to get reservations again.  If you are able to get reservations, I promise you will not be disappointed. The food was wonderful, the ambiance is spectacular and the service was impeccable.  And don’t forget to try the Grey Stuff, it really is delicious!
