To FastPass or Not to FastPass? That is the Question!

How to know what attractions to FastPass or not to FastPass has as many answers as there are touring plans for Walt Disney World. Each park has different needs and styles to touring so what works at one park doesn’t work as well for other parks.

Let’s put this in different groups of thought. When considering your FastPasses for all parks, what are your must do’s? If your ‘must do’ has a FastPass option then YES, use a FastPass for that attraction no matter what people say.  It is better to use a FastPass for a ‘must do’ attraction and get to enjoy it than take the chance with stand by and end up missing it because the lines were just too long.

Magic Kingdom Park

My thought process for the Magic Kingdom is that I first figure out how many days will I be visiting the Magic Kingdom. If only one day, then I say your FastPass choices should be Peter Pan, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Splash Mountain. I can usually get FastPasses for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean and Space Mountain as a fourth, fifth, or sixth option. If I am going for more than one day, I split up the first three sets of FastPass choices among those options, depending on how I plan to tour the park for each day.

Epcot

Epcot is a little different because they have a tiered system and let’s face it, we all want to do everything in Tier 1.  Tier 1 includes popular rides such as Frozen Ever After, Soarin’, Test Track and IllumiNations. Right now, Frozen is THE must have FastPass for Epcot, so that has to be the one you pick from this group if you plan on riding it. If Frozen isn’t on your list, then my next choices would be in order, Soarin’. Test Track then Illuminations. From Tier 2, I would pick Character Spot to meet Mickey and Friends as there always seems to be a slow moving line for that meet and greet. Keep in mind, Test Track has an option to ride as a single rider, which is very helpful on this attraction. Always remember to choose them based on what your family favorites are.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios also has a tiered system. Tier 1 includes Toy Story Mania, Beauty and the Beast, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and The Great Movie Ride. From this group, I believe Toy Story Mania is the must-get as all the others are possible to get as a 4th FastPass option. For the Tier 2 group, I think The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is the must get, then choose your other one based on what is the ‘must do’ for you and your family.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Finally, we have Animal Kingdom. With Pandora – The World of Avatar opening, Animal Kingdom now has a tiered system as well. Tier 1 will be Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey. At this time, I would ride Na’vi River Journey soon as the park opens and get a Fast Pass for Avatar Flight of Passage to use right after. For Tier 2, I would get them in this order – Rivers of Light, Kilimanjaro Safari or Kali River Rapids, Dinosaur, Expedition Everest, as availability allows. Remember, once you have scanned in for that third FastPass, you are eligible to reserve the fourth one and so on, as you use them.

FastPasses can be booked 60 days in advance for guests staying at the Walt Disney World Resort and 30 days for guests staying off-site. You can sign in to your My Disney Experience account as early at 7:00 a.m. and I highly recommend doing this since most of the Tier 1 Fast Passes will be gone if you wait too long. Good luck and remember to let us know if we can assist!
