Liberty Tree Tavern Review

Hear ye! Hear ye! The fare is fantastic at the Liberty Tree Tavern!

I am always searching for good sit down dining options at the Magic Kingdom.  We’ve been to Be Our Guest and the Skipper’s Cantina and enjoyed both.  Cinderella’s Royal Table is good, but not one we always want to experience.  There’s always Tony’s Town Square, but we are not big fans of their food.  Coming from a strong Italian background with amazing chefs in my life, Tony’s falls very short of good Italian food.  So, what else is there in the Magic Kingdom?  Quick service burgers and chicken tenders?  No thanks!

While browsing through the Disney app for dining options outside of the Magic Kingdom, Liberty Tree Tavern popped up with a reservation for almost immediate seating.  I always forget about Liberty Tree Tavern and had not dined there since I was a kid, so my daughter and I decided to give it a good ‘ol colonial try.  We were not disappointed – quite the opposite.  It’s one of the best dining options in the Magic Kingdom.

Set in the heart of Liberty Square, Liberty Tree Tavern is perfectly themed around Colonial America and celebrates our country’s heritage with all-American comfort food including a traditional Thanksgiving dinner served family-style.  The restaurant features six different historically themed dining rooms rich with warm wood paneling, large brick fireplaces.  Each of the six rooms honors an essential person in American history, and you can wander in and out of each room to enjoy the relics associated with George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Paul Revere, Betsy Ross, Thomas Jefferson and John Paul Jones.

We were seated in a quaint little corner on a window overlooking the Hall of Presidents.  The seeded glass in the windows didn’t make for a clear view of The Muppets Present Great Moments in American History but we could still the crowds passing through a busy Liberty Square.

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of a Good Meal

We were immediately greeted by our server who brought us a warm stoneware plate full of hot dinner rolls and soft honey butter.  Good thing because we were famished!

After perusing the menu, my daughter and I both decided on the all-you-care-to-enjoy family style lunch that includes the Declaration Salad, the Patriot’s Platter and dessert.

Starters

The first thing to arrive at our table was the Declaration Salad.  The Declaration salad is a nice mix of crisp Iceberg lettuce with shredded carrots, sliced seedless cucumbers, red onions and cherry tomatoes.  Nothing fancy or extraordiary, right?  Wrong!  The house made salad dressing makes this salad irresistible.  The salad is already tossed with the dressing but I am sure you can order it on the side if you wish.

Main Course

Next up was the Patriot’s Platter, the star of the meal.  The platter piled high with roasted turkey breast, carved pork roast and New England Pot Roast is enough to feed four, and there was only two of us.  Oh well, we will just have to do our best.  Hidden under the turkey breast was a heaping scoop of herbed stuffing and next to it is a ramekin of cranberry sauce.  And then, another platter arrives with traditional Thanksgiving sides – mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, seasoned corn and a gravy boat.  Let’s give thanks and dig in!

The carved pork roast is tender and flavorful, and the roasted turkey breast was moist and delicious too.  But the winner of this platter is the New England Pot Roast!  With large, tender chunks of beef and vegetables braised in an excellent Cabernet wine sauce, this serving makes the Patriot’s Platter worth a try.  Of course, you can always order the New England Pot Roast as an entrée.

All the sides are delicious but we didn’t care much for the macaroni and cheese.  It is not bad, and it looks creamy and fantastic in the bowl, but it just lacks any distinctive flavor and really could use salt. Maybe it is Stouffer’s.  The mashed potatoes and gravy are outstanding though.

The serving sizes are generous and you can always ask for seconds or thirds, but it is so much food on the first round, I can’t imagine being hungry after the first round.

Save Room for Dessert

Did I mention we were stuffed to the gills?  We were.  And, we forgot about dessert!  There’s always room for dessert though, right??  Not really but in the name of ooey goodness, we will endure!  Here it comes….the Oooey Gooey Toffee Cake topped with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, swimming in a caramel sauce and topped with chocolate and toffee chunks.  Yes, please!   We didn’t care how full we were, we were determined to indulge in this beautiful sweet goodness that sat before us in a mini cast iron pan.  Saying it is good would not do it justice.  It is to die for!  The toffee cake is hot and the ice cream is melting all over.  What a dessert!  I wish I had just ordered that instead of a meal!  Maybe then we wouldn’t have had to roll our way through Frontierland afterward.

Needless to say, The Liberty Tree Tavern is worthy of a visit on your next trip to Walt Disney World Resort but not only do I recommend making a reservation, I recommend a hearty appetite.

The Liberty Tree Tavern participates in the Disney Dining Plan and uses one credit for a table service meal.  Annual Passholders and Tables in Wonderland members receive a 20% discount.
