Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast Review

Start your day with two of your favorite Disney couples like Ariel and Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid and Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from Tangled at the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast at Trattoria al Forno.

During the evening, Trattoria al Forno serves up an excellent selection of Italian cuisine from the open, on-stage kitchen. As the sun rises, the atmosphere turns into a lively character dining experience with music from The Little Mermaid and Tangles that sets the stage as a “send off” for the rest of your day in Disney Parks.

When guests arrive at their table, they will find a Bon Voyage Adventure Journal, a travel log for guests to record their “best day ever” adventures. In the Adventure Journal, young explorers are encouraged to record their favorites in all four of the Walt Disney World Parks including favorite snacks, rides and characters.

Meet the Characters

During your dining experience, guests have the chance to meet their favorite couples one at a time. First up for us was Flynn Rider, who was charming and fun and didn’t hesitate to show off his famous smolder!

Then, the lovely Rapunzel, donning her long, blonde braid, is curious about the dreams of all the guests she meets. We spent a minute looking around the restaurant for Pascal with her.

Next is the delightful Prince Eric dressed in his stunning royal wear! Feeling like a kid, and perhaps being slightly starstruck, I couldn’t resist taking a picture with my favorite Prince. I may or may not have blushed a little!

And lastly, is The Little Mermaid herself, Ariel, who was happy to talk about all her underwater adventures!

Once all the characters have been introduced and are in the dining room, the fun begins. The music plays, and Ariel led the napkin parade through the dining room. The young and the young at heart are welcome to join in on the fun waving their napkins in the air during a jovial frolic through the restaurant.

The Fare

Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast Menu

The menu offers delightful prix fixe selections to please any palate. Your dining experience starts off with a lovely variety of pastries for everyone at the table to share. The pastries keep with the theme of the breakfast including a clam shell pastry dotted with a blue pearl and Rapunzel’s sun.  They are all served in…wait for it….a FRYING PAN! Coffee and juice are readily available as well.

Guests also get a choice of a fresh fruit salad decorated with Triton’s crown and a sword or a berry, yogurt and granola parfait topped with a cute little red Sebastian.

For our main course, I chose the Tangled eggs which are lightly scrambled eggs with fresh mozzarella cheese, ripe tomatoes, garden-fresh basil and Sunday gravy served with a side of bacon or sausage and roasted potatoes. Having a strong Italian heritage, I knew that “Sunday gravy” was red sauce, and I wasn’t sure that I wanted my eggs smothered in it.  I ordered it on the side. It was a nice addition.  The Tangled Eggs are delicious. Would I order them again? I don’t think so – once I saw King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno and the Golden Fritatta pass by, I almost regretted my choice. Almost. I will just have to go back to sample the other dishes.

My daughter ordered Royale Breakfast which is an oak-grilled steak accompanied by a cheesy-egg torte topped with fonduta and asparagus and served roasted potatoes and crispy onions. Everything on her plate had a wonderful flavor, but the cheesy torte should be an individual menu item – it’s delish! The oak-grilled steak was flavorful and cooked perfectly to her requested temperature – medium rare!

Guests can also order specialty coffees and adult beverages from the menu. Favorites include the Peach Bellini and the Caprese Bloody Mary (yum). Mimosas are also available.

All-in-all, this is an enjoyable dining experience. I had read several reviews when it first opened that were not in favor of the food, and I have to disagree with them. The food was delicious, although a bit different from your standard breakfast, and the character meet and greets were fun. So, if you are a fan of Tangled and The Little Mermaid, I recommend adding this fun dining experience to your plans. It’s a great way to start your day full of Disney Adventures.

Costs

The Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast is $34 per adult and $20 for children ages 3-9. If you are on the Disney Dining Plan, this experience is 1 Table Service Credit. Tables in Wonderland is accepted.

A side note, for those who don’t want to partake in the character meet and greet aspect of this restaurant but want to enjoy a hearty breakfast, our server told us that there is not only a separate room to dine in but also the outdoor tables along the BoardWalk are available.
